Here is how to prepare if you want to have a great time reeling the catches:

Get a good night’s sleep

Fishing in a vessel on the ocean is a most exhilarating experience when you’re physically ready. But, it can be a rough experience if you had a long night of partying the night  before. You want to be fully engaged in pulling the catches. And when you’re not fishing, you want to stay awake to watch a pod of dolphins, shark, sea turtle, and other creatures. The open water teems with life, so you never know what you may see. If you’re on your vacation you can plan those late-night activities for another day.

Dress in layers

An icy wind in Hawaiian waters can be quite disappointing if you’re dressed in a short and a T-shirt. Needless to say, a rain cloud may grow into a storm in an instant. In case of such unexpected events, you should have sufficient clothing. To ensure you’re comfortable when hauling in your catch you should bring;

  •  A waterproof jacket or a windbreaker
  •  Polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare of the water
  •  A hat to keep your head cool
  •  Gloves to handle fish

Bring a water bottle and some snacks

Before setting out, you should drink a lot of water to ensure your body remains cool during those hot days.  A day on the water is usually physically demanding, so eating and drinking will keep your energy up. Do not bring bananas as they are considered unlucky in Hawaii.

Carry seasickness medication

Water can be a little choppy, particularly off Oahu, so you should bring along some motion sickness medicine. Even if you’ve never experienced seasickness before, it’s a good idea to have some on hand. The boat will be moving all day and you never know how your body will react when you encounter some waves. It’s recommended that you take a pill for seasickness a day before the expedition.

Bring some cash

Because some fishing charters are operated by one person, you can have an option of paying in cash instead of checks or credit. Also, you may want to tip your guides at the end of your fishing trip.

Take sunscreen along

The truth is, you’ll be out there in the sun for much of the day. Even on cloudy days, you should not underestimate the strength of the sun. Apart from the overhead sunlight, the water will reflect the rays which may intensify the effect.

If you’re passionate about deep sea fishing, use the above guide and you’ll surely have an unforgettable experience.

Have fun deep sea fishing in Oahu Hawaii!
